VIDEO: Here’s A New App To Help Florida Businesses Prep For Disaster

Florida SBDC Network, the state’s main business assistance provider, has launched a new tool to help Florida businesses prepare, respond and recover from disasters.

Bizaster, available in English and Spanish from the App Store or via Google Play, is a free mobile disaster assistance app that features risk assessments, customizable checklists and other resources.

Here’s a video of how it works:

“An estimated 25-40 percent of businesses do not re-open following a major disaster,” said Michael Myhre, CEO and network state director for the Florida SBDC, in a prepared statement. “In the event of a disaster, preparation is key.”

The Florida SBDC at Florida International University, a member of the Florida SBDC Network, partnered with the FIU Extreme Events Institute to develop the app. Originally developed for use in Latin America and the Caribbean, the app was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance.
