Mike Gold, the entrepreneurial and visionary Chief Executive Officer of People’s Trust Insurance Company, passed away in his sleep Sunday, January 26th. He was 60.
Gold founded People’s Trust Insurance in 2008 because he was a frustrated Florida homeowner paying too much for insurance and knew there had to be a better way. Gold was passionate about his vision to provide homeowners with an innovative approach that featured a way to keep premiums down so people could afford to live in the state. With the help of his friend and business partner, George W. Schaeffer, they formed People’s Trust, and the company experienced immediate success.
“Mike was a life-long friend, and like a brother to me. His larger-than-life persona will be sorely missed by all of us in the People’s Trust Family,” said Schaeffer. “We will honor his vision by continuing to build on his success and providing our policyholders with the very best service.”
The company continues to experience strong customer adoption, and recently exceeded 100,000 policyholders throughout Florida. Additionally, last week, People’s Trust was named as the recipient of the 2013 Enterprise Florida Governor’s Innovators in Business Award for being a company that has set a standard for entrepreneurship and creativity.

Continuity Strong Among the People’s Trust Senior Management Team
Effective immediately, Schaeffer will assume the role of Chairman of People’s Trust Insurance. Likewise, Politzer will remain as President, a role he has had since 2009. The company was already in the process of naming a new head of operations, but otherwise does not anticipate any other major shifts in the senior management team. “This is a tremendously devoted group of executives,” said Schaeffer. “We all believe in Mike’s vision and are dedicated to building a unique business and being a part of something that is truly special.”

A truly devoted family man, Gold is survived by his wife of 37 years, Eileen, along with 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
